Thanks to Mr. Coakley for writing this article. These important issues
aren't going away.
I would like to point out one more major current issue that deserved
inclusion in this article. The Mid Peninsula Highway proposal was reborn
by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and emerged as the Niagara
to GTA Corridor. The final Environmental Assessment Terms of Reference
for this project are complete and being submitted by the MTO to the
Minister of the Environment for approval. Comments are to be submitted
to the Minister by December 2, 2006.
If built, this corridor will cut a swath through the Niagara Escarpment.
For those who care about this treasure, now is the time to voice your
opinion.
As a member of COPE (Citizens Opposed to Paving the Escarpment), I
am currently reviewing the Terms of Reference. Although it is greatly
improved compared to the Mid Peninsula Highway process, caution must
still be exercised.
Anyone interested in this issue can obtain more information by visiting
www.niagara-gta.com or COPE's website: www.stophighway.com
Sincerely,
Susan McMaster
