THE BURLINGTON
POST 02/21/03
Citizen
suggestions will be encouraged at the next mid-peninsula highway meeting.
The session will be held Tuesday (Feb. 25) at 7 p.m. at the Burlington
Convention Centre, 1120 Burloak Dr.
This
event is organized by the City of Burlington, the Coalition on the
Niagara Escarpment and Citizens Opposed to Paving the Escarpment.
(ministry of transportation is not involved in this session).
The city
will share preliminary results from a peer review of the ministry's
environmental assessment, terms of reference and needs assessment
documents.
City
staff will also help participants understand the ministry's technical
work and the next steps in the process. They are also interested in
hearing all citizen comments.
There
will also be a brief presentation by CONE members. COPE members will
present their current position and strategies, and invite comment
and suggestions.
A silent
auction will be held for artworks, including a signed book and signed
print by renowned artist Robert Bateman, a former Burlington resident.
The highway
is proposed to run between Niagara and Hamilton/Halton. Route alternatives
being considered include connections with Hwy. 407 in Burlington,
Hwy. 6 in Flamborough, Hwy. 403 on Hamilton Mountain or Hwy. 401 west
of Milton.
