Subject:
The Mid-Peninsula Highway / Niagara Escarpment
Dear Gentlemen,
The
Niagara Escarpment is one of Canada's most significant landforms. It
is cherished for its natural environment and praised for being a working
example of sustainable development.
It
is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. You propose to desecrate it with
the building of the Mid-Peninsula Highway.
Perhaps
you recall the words of the Joni Mitchell song, "don't
it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone,
they've paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
Let's
not make that the legacy we leave our children. Now is the time for
innovative and creative solutions that will take us into the future
with sensitivity and consideration for our fragile environment,
while still permitting progress and sustainable development.
Please
widen the scope of your vision to consider alternate routes or alternate
modes of transportation of both goods and people. The Niagara Escarpment
must be preserved.
Sincerely,
Mary
Griffin,
A
concerned citizen,
Burlington
Ontario.
